AWS Rescue

The American Water Spaniel Club (AWSC) has disbanded its Rescue Committee and no longer provides AWS rescue services to the AWS community. There is a private AWS rescue group located in Wisconsin but it is not a group that the AWSFA supports. If you have need of rescue services we suggest that you contact a local group who may be able to help you in a more timely fashion. You can also try contacting your breeder for assistance or any of the breeders listed in our Breeders Directory may be able to help you in some way.

This is precisely what happened with a young male AWS in Michigan in November 2009. Edie's Kennel (Gary and Tonja McCullough) was contacted looking for help in placing an unwanted AWS and within a week the dog had been picked up, cleaned up, and found a new home in Wisconsin. While such help is not always available or as such success so quickly met most breeders will do their best to assist you.

  • Confusing Brown Dogs - confused about whether the dog you are looking at is an American or Irish Water Spaniel or, perhaps, a Boykin Spaniel? This page may help.
